A new set of photographs depicting a prototype model of the long-rumored, drop-top Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano have surfaced on the internet. The test mule seen here sports an ill-fitting hardtop suggesting that Ferrari could be working on a retractable metal roof solution much like the one used on the recently introduced California coupe-convertible GT. However, we wouldn't rule out the possibility that the Prancing Horse's engineers might also be planning to reemploy the 575M Superamerica's Fiorovanti-designed, electrochromic glass panel roof which rotated 180 degrees at the rear to lay flat over the boot.
Either way, if Ferrari goes ahead and introduces a roofless version of the 599 GTB Fiorano, it is most likely the Spider / Barchetta model will maintain the coupe's 6.0-litre V12 engine that cranks out a more than adequate 620HP at 7,600 rpm and 608Nm (448 lbs-ft) of torque at 5,600 rpm.
